Subject FINALLY A REAL SYNTHPOP BAND WITH BALLS

I've been hanging out in NYC and going to shows for about 18\19 years now, and I have to say - I remember old NYC before Disney took over -the dirty peep shows and Times Square Strip Clubs, great live music venues and fun alternative dance clubs. The Conservatives and Repubicans are trying to cover up every inch of what made NYC what it is by painting a facade of candy coated "fun for the whole family" bullshit... So when I heard there was gonna be a "NY Synthpop Fest" @ Rare in, of all places the meat packing district (that, by the way, is sooo "uber trendy" now it kills me) I knew it would be interesting... Most of the bands in the scene are really similar, aping the likes of the old standard - Depeche Mode, etc... I was worried that these types of acts would act as representing NYC. Then I heard that Brand New Idol was going to play so I went. Brand New Idol totally stole the show :) Finally a NYC "synthpop band" you wouldn't want to take home to your momma! I hate to say it but a lot of these acts are so conservative, homogenized and predictable and sometimes even "cutesy". It was good that BNI got to play and show up some of these typical, cookie cutter bands with the REAL NYC/punk rock attitute to shake up the night. They were mentioned in Thursdays NY Daily News article about the event as being "Sleazy" and "Snarky", reminding the writer of Soft Cell - well the author of that article hits the nail on the head. How can you be a NYC band and not be?! NYC was and still is in part the home of Sleaze! LOL Anyone who left after Freezepop missed a real NYC show by a real NYC band. Tim did his usual antics, but THIS time he added yet another great new element to make the show better then the last! See, this is what NYC bands are supposed to be like -Engaging, Creative, and Ballsy! I'll look thru my digi pics later I'll post some pics - lots of said "sleaze" going on with our bunch - drinking, smoking, and boob shots! maybe thats why we had such a great time watching BNI! xo
